Posted on: March 23, 2009
With MMA fans from wall to wall, Red and Jerry’s played host to Rocky Mountain Bad Boyz “AFTERMATH”.
Fight fans were treated to a great night with tons of fast paced action and many first round endings.
In the main event Mike Baldwin locked horns with Ryan Axtell in the professional RMBB super fight of the night.
Axtell started with a nice take down to put Baldwin on his back, but Baldwin had no problem rising to his feet only to be slammed back down to the canvas.
Axtell began his GNP but not for long as Baldwin used his ground game to execute a beautiful sweep to mount then delivered some GNP. Axtell quickly performed a sweep of his own.
During the rotation Baldwin found the opening to pull in a triangle.
Balwin did a fine job listening to his impressive and very experienced corner men, Donald “COWBOY” Cerrone, Leonard “Bad Boy” Garcia and Duane “Bang” Ludwig.
Baldwin then grabbed the leg to improve his angle and ultimately solidified the submission.
A stop was called to the action at 2:43 into the first round.
Carlos Huorta was set to due battle with CJ Martinez for the RMBB 135 lb Regional Title.
Huorta began by taking Martinez to the canvas proceeded by a few solid strikes. Martinez found a break in the exchange to return to his feet. Huorta again fired another takedown and transitioned to his superior ground control and began to punish Martinez.
Martinez found an opportunity to land an up kick and regain his footing. Huorta immediately pounced on his opponent landing a few more crisp strikes and kicks.
The action moved to the cage edge as Huorta worked the clinch . The fighters continued the stand up battle exchanging blows and trying to end the skirmish.
Huorta once again decided to take the fight to the cage floor as he moved to side control and began raining down punches and elbows.
During the exchange Huorta got a little to comfortable giving Martinez the time to lock in an extremely tight triangle.
Huorta, who had been controlling the match up was now facing defeat and with another title within his grasp Huorta maintained composure and performed an excellent counter.
Gasping for air, Huorta moved to the mount and took a brief moment to regain his breath then postured up and started a mirage of punches before the end of the first round.
Martinez was unable to continue after the break and Huorta claimed the title.
Anthony Werner and Andrew Yates battled for the 145 lb RMBB State Title.
Werner wasted no time at all to find the mark on his opponent as it only took him 40 seconds to take the title by way of the guillotine.
Justen Martin defeated Justin Shrewsbery with devastating knees. It only took Martin 40 seconds to land 3 bone crushing knees to the mid section of Shrewsbery, whom immediately crumbled to the canvas in serious pain.
The ring side physician was immediately called in for the examination of Shrewsbery and Martin became the new 170 lb RMBB State Title holder.
Josiah Callis hammered Richard Large with a brutal right hand that dropped him to the canvas. Callis jumped on and locked in the guillotine.
In under a half a minute Callis took home the RMBB 155 lb State Title.
Jeremiah Record faced off against the seemingly crowd favorite Victor Gomez and dominated the match up. Record proved to be too much for his game opponent as he controlled the ground as well as the stand up exchanges.
Gomez seemed to have no answer and Record made the best of the situation landing a combination of strikes to instantly bloody the face of Gomez. The fight then continued on the canvas and Record continued with punishing GNP.
Record locked in a tight guillotine forcing Gomez to tap 1:54 into the first round.
After going 3-0 for the night, training at T’s KO seems to be paying off as Record proved to be a prime example of the many talented and exciting amateur and professional fighters being produced by “The Home of Champions”.
Matt Lowery submitted Cory Ortiz with a RNC in only 37 seconds.
Nico Garcia defeated Pete Reynolds by RNC 1 minute into the first.
Trent Nickles defeated Danny Mitchell by guillotine at the 1:03 mark of round 2.
