louie byrd mainOn a night when the Mile High City played host to the 2009 USA Boxing National Championships, the tournament of tournaments in amateur boxing, one of Colorado’s finest young pugilist reigned supreme.

Over four-hundred plus men and woman brought their very best to Colorado this week to compete for gold.

I was lucky enough to shoot the event Saturday night for the mens championship round and immediately  fell back in love with the sweet science.

With the yelling of instructions from each corner, both fighters listen and deliver.

It was one of the finest nights in boxing I have ever attended as I witnessed the sweet science at it’s finest form.

Trainers and fighters worked hand in hand to achieve their dreams and local stand out Louie Byrd handed down defeat after defeat as he worked his way to the gold medal and a spot on Team USA tonight in front of his home town crowd.

Byrd put on a show as he stopped a very game Adan Ortiz of Sterling, IL in the last stanza as Byrd showed a very versatile yet effective arsenal  on his way to the gold.

Congratulations Louie Bryd, you made Colorado proud!

Congratulations are due for all of this weeks participants as well given their dedication to be the best, you are all champions in our eyes.
