Fans of the Rocky Mountain Bad  Boyz spent their Saturday night, February 13, 2010 at Red and Jerry’s for  another great night of Colorado fight
action.  The evening showcased three  professional bouts and four title matches.

The continued growth in popularity  of MMA in Colorado was evidenced by the professional athletes in attendance at  the event.  Luminaries in
attendance included Paul Buentello who is  training in Denver with fellow UFC veteran Mike Van Arsdale for his upcoming  bout in Broomfield (UFC on Versus) as well as professional combatants Bobby  Lashley and Thomas Denny.

Now, to the  action.

Main Event: CJ Martinez VS Ryan Axtell in a professional 135 lb. bout. 

 

Both fighters came out  with probing strikes before Axtell got a takedown off of head control in the  clinch. 

 

On the ground there was back and forth action with Martinez  attacking with submissions while Axtell used his GNP to open a cut on  Martinez. 

 

In a scramble for position Axtell switched to grappling tactics  and won the main event by way of armbar submission at 4:21 of round  one.

Derek Moralez VS Tye Hambin: In a  professional 175 lb. bout.

Martinez got an early takedown then had to escape  several submission attempts which he did by way of multiple slams.  The  combatants each scored with sweeps before the referee stood them.  Martinez  again got a takedown and from top control he worked GNP while Hambin attacked  with submissions to end the round. 

Round two had Martinez start with a big  double leg takedown and on the ground each fighter was again able to sweep the  other with Hambin continuing to favor submission attempts while Martinez worked  more GNP. 

The fight went into an overtime round and the deciding round  again opened with Martinez getting the takedown and Hambin continuing to work  his submission game from his back.  The action slowed and the referee stood  the fighters.  Hambin quickly jumped guard off of the clinch and again  worked submissions.  With 10 seconds left Martinez got a tight guillotine  that Hambin defended until the bell sounded.  The judge’s gave their scores  and it was seen as a win for Derek Moralez by way of split  decision.

Steve Graineri VS Nate Johnson: In a  professional 160 lb. bout. 

 

Graineri got a fast takedown and went  immediately to side control, then mount, then back control in order to set in  the fight ending cross face submission at 1:11 of round  one.

Forest Clouse VS Nick Myers for the Rocky Mountain Bad Boyz 185 lb. regional title. 

 

Myers immediately shot for and got a takedown then had to slam Clouse 3-4 times in  order to escape his submission attempts. 

 

Myers was momentarily able to get  side control, but Clouse regained guard and set in a tight triangle choke. 

 

Myers was able to get one more slam, but this time Clouse held the submission  tight and got the title winning tapout at 1:45 of round one.

Brandon Goshorn VS Tim Radcliff for  the  Rocky Mountain Bad Boyz 170 lb. state title.

 

Goshorn landed  quick punches to stagger Radcliff then get the takedown.

 

On the ground  Goshorn transitioned to mount and worked his GNP to set up a head and arm  triangle choke attempt.  Radcliff defended the choke and turned face down  to try to escape.

Goshorn used the position to set in the RNC and from  there he got the tapout win at :55 of round one.

Mark Baca VS Tyrone Wright for the Rocky  Mountain Bad Boyz 185 lb. state title. 

Round one was an all standup round  with each fighter probing from the outside.

Round two had each fighter  scoring a takedown but it was Wright that landed solid enough strikes to open a  cut on Baca.

Round three had Baca opening with head kicks and Wright  getting a takedown. 

The action slowed and the referee stood the fighters  who clinched to end the round. 

The judge’s cards were totaled and Tyrone  Wright was the winner by way of majority decision.

Jeron Aragon VS Adam Vigil for the Rocky  Mountain Bad Boyz 155 lb. interim title. 

Aragon got a quick takedown and  controlled position all round with each fighter working their GNP.

Round two had Aragon getting a takedown and taking mount but Conver scrambled to  standing.

The round ended with the fighters working strikes while  clinched.

Round three saw Aragon using a head kick to set up a takedown  but the referee stopped the action and took a point from Aragon because of an illegal elbow strike.

Upon restarting, Aragon got a bodylock takedown and  worked his GNP attack to end the bout.  The judge’s scorecards were utilized to determine a winner and the it was an unanimous decision in favor of Jaron Aragon.

Juan Gonzales VS Nick Rangel

Both  fighters came out swinging with all of their considerable might and they  stood toe-to-toe going back and forth across the cage with both landing telling  strikes on the other.

Gonzales knocked out the mouthpiece of Rangel while  Rangel was able to open several cuts on Gonzales.  At 1:04 of round one the  bout was stopped on the advice of the doctor due to the cuts and the winner by  way of TKO was Nick Rangel.

Felix Apodaca VS Pete Alvarado.  

Alvarado opened the night with a takedown and from the bottom Apodaca set in a  tight armbar.  As a defensive tactic Alvarado picked up Alvarado and  slammed him hard enough that he scored a knockout win with the slam at :44 of round one.

“Of the night” moments:

Chin(s) of the night go to Juan Gonzales and  Nick Rangel for the two super heavyweights that stood to-to-toe and slugged it  out until the doctor had
to call a stop to their fight.

KO and slam of the night both go to Pete  Alvarado for picking up his opponent and slamming him to get the win by way of  KO.

Submission of the night goes to Forest Clouse  for staying committed to his triangle choke to get the tapout win even after  being slammed multiple
times.

Fight of the night goes to Derek Moralez and  Tye Hambin.  Their fight was close enough that it had to go into overtime  to determine the winner. 
Their back and forth battle showcased the linked  submission attempts of Hambin and the takedowns and positional control of  Moralez.
